Trient is a tiny, isolated settlement below the Forclaz and Balme passes. Although there is no town to speak of, there a number of houses, a campground, and a couple of modest small inns. There is also a small shop next to the Auberge du Mont Blanc that sells food and souvenirs.
We only stay at the Hotel la Grand Ourse here, located near the large chapel in town. Although it appears a bit plain and beaten down from the outside, the Grande Ourse has been recently completely renovated by their proud owners. The inside sports a clean decor and simple but tastefully decorated private rooms, apartments, and small dorm rooms with bathroom down the hall. They have free wifi and even have a sauna.
The Grande Ourse has to-go lunches for sale that need to be ordered the night before.
