Hotel de la Forclaz is a hotel and restaurant on a pass on the road from Martigny. Although there is no town nearby, there is a small shop across the street from the hotel that sells a small variety of snacks and souvenirs. The hotel is a popular place during the day with bikers, drivers and hikers of all types, and their large outdoor terrace is always full on nice days. It’s a nice place to relax with a drink and a map in the last rays of the sun at the end of a big hike.
The hotel is also a busy overnight spot, being one of the very few inns on this corner of both the TMB and Haute Route hikes. They are full most nights during the summer, and offer a variety of overnight possibilities, from private rooms to dormitory and even camping. Despite the hectic nature of the place, they do a reasonable job as long as you don’t expect much personal attention. We alternate between staying here or down in Trient depending on availability.
