Thendele Camp is situated in the heart of the Royal Natal section of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site and is the perfect starting point for hikes in this beautiful area. At the reception office you will find the Mountain Rescue Register, where you have to sign in before and after each hike. You can also get information, brochures and maps on site. In the small store connected to the reception you can buy souvenirs, basic supplies, snacks and cool drinks.

Opening times

The reception office is open from 08:00 to 16:30.

The gates at the entrance of the park are opened and closed at the following times:

05:00 - 22:00 in summer (1 October -31 March)

06:00 - 22:00 in winter (1 April - 30 September)

Entry Fee:

South African residents/citizens: R50 per adult - R25 per child. Standard: R100 per adult - R50 per child

(valid from November 2022 - November 2023)

Public transport

It is recommended to use your own vehicle since public transport is limited.

Directions

If you are coming from Ladysmith, turn off just south of Ladysmith and follow the Bergville Road for 55 km. From Bergville travel 30 km towards Olivershoek Pass/Harrismith and then turn left at the Drakensberg North sign. It is approximately 16 km from there to the entrance gate of the Royal Natal section of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.

If you are travelling on the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban and you are coming from the south, turn off the N3 at the Winterton/Northern Berg Resorts turn off and pass through Winterton and Bergville. Turn left at the Drakensberg North signboard. It is approximately 16 km from there to the entrance gate of the Royal Natal section of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.

If you are coming from Harrismith, turn right and travel 5 km on the Bethlehem Road where you turn left onto the R74/R712 at the Phuthaditijaba sign. Turn left again 8 km along this road at the Bergville/Oliviershoek Pass/R74 sign. Turn right at the Drakensberg North sign. It is approximately 16 km from there to the entrance gate of the Royal Natal section of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.
