Purely. The sum of all parts.
Wine is a lot for this family. A complex system of a place, its people and their attitude. For generations, the wine of the Reinisch family has shaped the Johanneshof in the Thermenregion south of Vienna. It has grown over many decades: quietly, consistently, without haste. Qualities that characterize this family as a whole. It has grown from decisions that are made time and time again. From respect for what is there. And from the conviction that it is always the sum of many small and large parts that makes the difference in the end.
What began with half a hectare has grown over the years into 40 hectares of vineyards around Tattendorf and Gumpoldskirchen. More is not to come. Not for lack of opportunities, but out of conviction. Manageability is a prerequisite for precision. And precision is a prerequisite for character. The Thermenregion offers the best conditions for this. A microclimate characterized by constant air movement. Soils of brown earth, alluvial gravel and conglomerates. Conditions that allow a lot - and bring with them just as much responsibility. Because the better the starting point, the higher the demands on what is to be produced from it.
This also applies to the grape varieties chosen. There are the indigenous grape varieties Rotgipfler and Zierfandler, but also St. Laurent and Pinot Noir. The latter have probably provided the personal signature of this winery. Each variety is seen as an independent personality. Without rigid recipes, without things being lumped together. Pinot Noir, for example, demands absolute attention - it forgives nothing, but gives depth, elegance, delicacy and tension. Characteristics that run like a red thread through the entire range. Whether in the base or the sites.
Naturally. And with a lot of grip
For Reinisch, wine is nature. It sets the pace. The winery has been certified organic since 2013. A logical consequence if you see the vineyards and the farm as an organism. Permanent greening, sheep, bees and a variety of plants and beneficial organisms are a matter of course here. Biodynamic preparations, compost, teas and gentle soil care support the natural balance.
This attitude continues in the cellar. Tradition and openness are not contradictory, but complement each other. White wines are always matured on the lees, even in the base. They remain in the cellar for at least one year, gaining structure and depth without losing clarity. The site wines mature in wood or amphorae, the local wines partly in wood and partly in steel tanks.
Depending on the vintage, Pinot Noir is sometimes fermented with whole grapes. Ageing takes place mainly in French and Hungarian oak, St. Laurent also in oak from the Vienna Woods, which is stored and weathered on site. No intervention too much, no step too soon. That is what they have internalized here.
With Sebastian Reinisch, the next generation has now also left its mark on the wine. Johannes' son incorporates new ideas and at the same time can draw on the family's experience. Respect for what has grown.
Many passions. One overall experience.
Since spring 2026, it has also been possible to stay overnight at Reinisch. The Schlafgut is the last part of the family's story for the time being. A passion for hospitality has given rise to a home in the middle of the vines. Whether you are just passing through or want to escape the big city of Vienna - here you can experience not only wine but, if you wish, an entire farm organism.
Restaurant Thomas rounds off the overall concept in a wonderful way. Thomas Reinisch has found his very own way to enjoyment. With a healthy dose of ambition, curiosity and passion for authentic products, he has made a name for himself in a short space of time. Down-to-earth and yet keen to experiment, he cooks his way into the hearts of his guests. The best things always come from relationships. From the combination of generations, personalities and points of view. Not loud. Not adapted. But genuine.
