Stay at South Tyrol’s oldest family-run winery
Since 1363, Schmid Oberrautner has been part of Bolzano’s living wine tradition. Set in the historic district of Gries, at the foot of the Guntschnapromenade and within easy walking distance of the old town, our winery brings together history, wine and personal hospitality. Today, we run our family estate in the 21st generation, combining centuries of experience with contemporary winemaking.
A winery stay in Bolzano: peaceful and surrounded by greenery, yet right in the city. Three individually designed holiday apartments within our historic estate combine the character of old walls with modern comfort. All apartments are air-conditioned and feature their own fully equipped kitchen. Our spacious garden offers plenty of room to relax, and breakfast is available on request. Bolzano’s old town, with its arcades, squares and cafés, is within easy walking distance.
Wine is an essential part of staying with us. During cellar tours and tastings, we personally share insights into our work and the winery’s more than 660 years of history. Our wines include Lagrein from Gries, St. Magdalener and Souvignier Gris, a resistant PIWI grape variety. Our historic vaulted cellars, dating back to the late 14th century, extend up to two storeys underground and have provided special conditions for ageing our wines for centuries.
Personally run for 21 generations: we are Florian and Judith, and we run the winery with passion, a love of wine and genuine personal hospitality. Whether over breakfast, during a wine tasting or simply meeting in the courtyard, we enjoy taking time for our guests and sharing our winery and a more personal side of Bolzano with them.
