Having a farm holiday means understanding how life on the farm works... this includes finding out about all the animals, but also having the level of comfort that one would wish for on holiday.
Our farm is in the countryside, but is not cut off... you can reach many sights very quickly... but can also go for secluded walks and experience perfect peace and quiet in unspoiled natural surroundings.
Children should be able to experience life on a farm themselves, not merely from picture books. A variety of activities makes for a well rounded and successful holiday; playing with the children, contact with the animals, going swimming and messing about, inventing new games and forgetting about the television or computer games for a while. When parents read, laze about or go for walks together and get the feeling that the children are keeping busy too, enjoying the exercise and are "really tired from all of the fresh air" when evening comes around... you know you are on a proper farm holiday!
When children come back from holiday knowing where milk comes from, how to milk a cow, how a calf is born, what rabbits eat, that vegetables from the garden are something special, that a cat eats mice, a horse must be cleaned before being ridden, ......you know you are on a proper farm holiday!
Just as you get to know our farm and work, we also learn something new every day... no job is all sunshine! What is important is to feel happy with yourself, to concentrate on what is important again; how wonderful it can be to enjoy time spent with the family, having the children around you...
Of course comfort is important and we are going to renovate various parts of our holiday home again next month! The sanitary facilities will be improved and fully replaced, and we plan to build a kitchen and dining room for our guests, so that double room guests and families can prepare something small for themselves and eat together. It is good to have flexibility, especially when you have children. Of course you will still be able to have breakfast, lunch or supper with us.
