The approximately 50-kilometer long mountain variant of the Rothaarsteig offers guests in Breitscheid a well-staged hiking dream on the "Path of the Senses," which connects the Hanseatic city of Brilon with the Oranier city of Dillenburg.
On the Westerwald Trail from Herborn through Breitscheid to Bad Hönningen, hikers are treated to wide views of the varied landscape. For sports enthusiasts, cross-country ski trails of varying difficulties are groomed in winter or designated as Nordic walking routes.
You can experience high-altitude air with a glider flight. For sports lovers, football golf offers an unusual sporting activity. Hiking through Hesse's oldest nature reserve, climbing a coral reef, and catching fantastic glimpses into caves, tunnels, and burial chambers from the earliest human settlements – all of this is possible for visitors of the Karst and Cave Educational Trail.
The 3-8 kilometer circular route on the Westerwald Trail leads over 24 stations to the geological highlights: from the Erdbach sinkhole over the Homberg to the stone chambers, the Hessian Geotope of the Year 2015.
