Eberstein is a small market town in the central Görtschitztal valley in Carinthia, situated at around 580 meters above sea level. The municipality covers around 65 km² and has around 1,230 inhabitants.
Historically, Eberstein was first mentioned in the 12th century and was a center of iron processing in the Middle Ages. Eberstein Castle, which looks back on a long history, is an important landmark in the region.
The municipality impresses with its late Gothic fortified church in Hochfeistritz and the Gothic parish church in St. Oswald. Nature lovers appreciate the impressive rock gate on the Gutschenkogel as a special natural monument.
The economy is mainly based on agriculture and forestry, supplemented by summer tourism. Mobility in the region is promoted by a special transport service.
Eberstein offers many hiking and cycling trails, including the popular Görtschitztal cycle path. The area is also known for its healing springs, which play an important role in local tradition.
