Climate change adaptation model regions (KLAR!) and tourism destinations in Carinthia have selected a wealth of unique places together with the local population. The variety of Cool Down Places - the most beautiful places for hot days - is as colourful as a palette of natural wonders.
From nature. For all people.
The endeavour behind this idea is obvious - in a world in which climate change is becoming increasingly noticeable, hot days are on the rise and are becoming a challenge to our well-being and health, these Cool Down Places can provide natural cooling and a place for the harmonious balance of nature and well-being - for locals, guests and employees.
Places for conscious living and refreshment for body and mind
The Cool Down Places were linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to ensure sustainable peace and prosperity and protect our planet. In order to fulfil these goals, the tourism regions with their KLAR!s have actively set themselves the task of creating special places of sustainability, raising awareness and drawing attention to nature. The Cool Down Places are natural, freely accessible places that promise to cool the body and mind on hot summer days while also providing information on the 17 SDGs.
The pure diversity of nature
The places are as diverse as the state of Carinthia itself. The southernmost side of Austria is characterised by its more than 200 pure drinking water lakes, the varied natural landscape and unspoilt experiences between refreshing waters and picturesque alpine pastures. Under shady trees, in front of invigorating waterfalls, along rivers and streams or in historic buildings with their walls steeped in history, guests experience peace and relaxation. Impressive gorges and ravines, panoramic mountain peaks and idyllic Alpine pastures - the region offers a natural treasure trove full of unforgettable experiences and ‘cool’ moments.
This cooperation project is funded by the federal government and the European Union as part of the ‘Best Employer Destination’ project and by the Climate and Energy Fund as part of the ‘KLAR! - Climate Change Adaptation Model Region’ programme.
