The institution
The history of Geoscience Australia goes back to 1910 with the founding of the Australian Survey Office. Today, its responsibilities are wide‑ranging, covering everything from geoscientific research, mapping, and surveying to environmental issues, natural hazards, groundwater studies, the impacts of climate change, vegetation monitoring, and Earth observations from space.
