Monthly Snow Cover

Can I expect snow during my vacation? The map of the monthly snow cover provides information as a percentage of how many days there are of snow per month on average. The information is global and is provided by our partners at ExoLabs.

As a Pro+ user, you will find 'Monthly Snow Cover ' as a 'Style' option for both the Outdooractive map and the OpenStreetMap as part of your "Weather & Climate" information, which is accessed by selecting the 'Maps and trails' button at the bottom right of the map panel. You can activate it in almost all map views and use the data when planning your routes and trips.

The bar below allows you to view either the rolling monthly averages or the average for a specific month, which you can do simply by clicking on the bar.

WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM

The percentages we receive are based on a 21-year time span from 2001 to 2021. The dataset includes global landmass coverage from satellite data at a spatial of 0.5 km.

CURRENT WEATHER INFORMATION

Information on current snow conditions and forecasted snowfall can be found in the "weather" layer for both the Outdooractive map and OpenStreetMap. Again, this forms part of your "Weather & Climate" information and can be accessed by selecting the 'Maps and trails' button at the bottom right of the map panel. You can also refer to the 'Snow' (coverage and snowfall forecast for Central Europe) and 'Snow Depth' (current snow depths for the Alpine region) layers located in the same section.

Current weather as well as a 10-day forecast are also available on the detail page of any route, destination, or region.
