Karl-Heine Canal partially very heavily overgrown. Highly trafficked on weekends (paddlers, excursion boats). Landing stages are available but partly too high for easy disembarking. Very romantic route. View of Leipzig from the water highly recommended! Route from Lindenauer Hafen to Stadthafen approx. 6.2 km.

On this section of the Elster, there’s a strong current and two weirs that can be portaged to the left via a short route. In the first section, the Elster meanders very naturally, but the current is stronger, the river widens, and there are hardly any tree obstacles blocking the entire width. After the A9, the Neue Luppe flows into the river. From here on, it’s more like a canal, but the current is even faster.
Before boarding the bus in Raßnitz, it’s worth taking a trip to Raßnitzer See for a swim.

The tour can be done in both directions. You should pay attention to the prevailing wind directions: from west to south from Großdalzig to Plagwitz, from east to north in the opposite direction. The tour is designed so that the start and end points lie on the Leipzig - Gera - Saalfeld railway line, because I live along this route.
