Zapporthütte

The Zapporthütte is located at 2276 m in the Zapporttal valley above Hinterrhein in the canton of Graubünden, close to the Ursprung alluvial plain at the source of the Hinterrhein. The simple, originally furnished mountain hut belongs to the SAC Rätia section and is not far from the Zapport and Paradies glaciers; high tours to the Rheinquellhorn, Rheinwaldhorn and other three-thousand-metre peaks in the Adula group start from here. It is usually open from the end of February to mid-May and from the end of June to mid-October; during the rest of the year it remains open as a self-catering hut with cooking facilities, unless otherwise communicated. During the manned period, drinks, simple meals and half-board are offered; during the unmanned period, the kitchen is available to guests. The classic approach starts at the A13 San Bernardino north portal parking lot or in the village of Hinterrhein and takes around three and a half hours on a challenging, marked mountain trail via the tank shooting range and along the Hinterrhein to the hut; alternative routes run from Zervreila via the Canallücke or from surrounding huts in the Adula area. The main season for hikers is the summer from July to September, in winter and spring the hut serves as a base for ski and alpine tours. The current weather and avalanche situation, trail conditions, any closures and the shooting times of the military training area should be checked carefully before each tour.
