The Voralphütte SAC is located at 2126 m in the Voralptal valley near Göschenen in the Uri Alps. The hut of the Uto section is a base for families, climbers and ski tours.
The Voralphütte SAC is located at 2126 m in the upper Voralptal, a side valley of the Göschenertal above Göschenen in the canton of Uri. It belongs to the SAC Uto section and is a popular base for day visitors, families, climbers and ski and snowshoe tours in both summer and winter. The hut is usually open from the beginning of March to the end of April and from around mid-June to the end of September, with a winter room available in between. Overnight stays are only offered with half board; in the evening there is a multi-course menu, in the morning a mountain breakfast with home-baked bread, cheese and muesli, plus home-made cakes, simple dishes of the day and drinks from the Uri region. The approach is usually from the Voralp bend on the Göscheneralpstrasse, from where a marked mountain trail leads to the hut via Alp Horefelli in around 2.5 hours at an altitude of around 700 meters; the normal route from Göschenen is a longer option, taking 4 to 4.5 hours and covering a good 1000 meters in altitude. The hut is located on the Five Huts Panorama Trail and in a quiet valley known for its crystal finds, flowers and wildlife. As with all mountain tours, current conditions, closures and the weather forecast should be checked carefully before setting off. The first Voralphütte was built in 1891, later rebuilt several times and rebuilt in the same place in 1989 after an avalanche destruction in 1988.

Rooms

The Voralphütte offers 40 sleeping places with Nordic comforters, spread over four simple bedrooms; a hut sleeping bag is obligatory and can be rented directly at the hut if required. During the unattended period, a winter room with 18 sleeping places is available, the use of which requires prior reservation. A cozy lounge and dining room as well as toilets and washrooms with cold running water are located in the house, while the sun terrace offers a view of the surrounding glaciers. Cell phone reception and water are available all year round, according to the hut information. Overnight stays are only offered in combination with half board, reservations can be made online or by telephone. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms and are only allowed by prior arrangement with the hut warden.

Food and drink

Overnight guests receive half board with soup, salad depending on what is on offer, a hot main course and dessert; breakfast includes coffee or tea, milk, home-baked bread, butter, jam, cheese and fresh muesli as well as marching tea to take away. During the day, a small menu with simple dishes made from regional products, vegetarian options, homemade cakes and various drinks, syrups and wines from the canton of Uri are available.

Directions

From the parking lot in the Voralp curve, the marked hut access trail branches off from the Göscheneralpstrasse, first leads through the forest and then over the Alp Horefelli and the alpine buildings of Flachensteinen to the hut. This ascent takes around 2.5 hours with an altitude difference of around 700 meters. A longer option is to ascend from Göschenen via Wiggen; this normal route takes around 4 to 4.5 hours and covers a good 1000 meters in altitude.

Parking

The journey by car is from the Göschenen highway exit on the road in the direction of Göscheneralp. In the second hairpin bend, the so-called Voralp bend, you will find the main parking spaces for the ascent to the Voralphütte. Other marked parking spaces are located around 200 m below at Wiggen and at Grit; parking outside these areas is not permitted. In the snowy season, the Göscheneralp road is usually closed to private traffic at Abfrutt; parking is then available there or at Göschenen station, and depending on the snow conditions, you can take a snow cab to the Voralpkurve or to Wiggen.
