The Saleinaz hut (Cabane de Saleinaz CAS) is located at 2691 m above the Saleina glacier in the Valais Alps. It is an important starting point for high-altitude tours in the Mont Blanc massif.
The Saleinaz hut (Cabane de Saleinaz CAS) is located at 2691 m on the edge of the Saleina glacier between Val Ferret and the Trient glacier plateau in the canton of Valais. The hut belongs to the Neuchâteloise section of the Swiss Alpine Club and is run by club members, which gives it a personal, unpretentious atmosphere. It is manned during the summer season, typically from June to September, and for a few weeks in spring; outside these periods, a winter room is open. It is the destination of a long day hike, a stage base on the Haute Route and the starting point for high-altitude tours to Aiguille d'Argentière, Aiguille du Chardonnet, the Aiguilles Dorées or the Grande Lui. The normal ascent begins in Praz-de-Fort in Val Ferret and takes around four to five hours over moraines, scree and rocky passages secured with iron steps and chains to the hut; in winter, the only way up is via surrounding glacier passes such as Col du Chardonnet or Fenêtre de Saleina. The hut offers half board with dinner, breakfast and tea on the march as well as simple meals and drinks and also serves as a base for ski tours in winter and spring. Current conditions, route closures and the weather and avalanche report should be checked carefully before each tour.

Rooms

The Saleinazhütte offers 48 sleeping places in four simple mattress dormitories with comforters; you must bring your own sleeping bag. During the serviced period, reservations are requested via the CAS online system or by telephone at the hut so that groups and individual guests can be sure of a place. When the hut is closed, two dormitories with a total of 22 beds and a toilet remain open as a winter room; there you can cook for yourself and pay for your overnight stay by QR deposit slip or bank transfer. The usual hut rules apply in the hut with rest periods in the evening, hut shoes indoors and early departure for high tours. Pets are not allowed inside for hygiene reasons and bivouacking around the hut is prohibited. Payment can also be made by credit card during the serviced season. The hut is located at 2691 m and can be contacted via the hut telephone +41 27 783 17 00 or by e-mail at saleinaz@cas-neuchatel.ch if you have any questions.

Surroundings

The Cabane de Saleinaz lies high above the wild glacial basin of the Saleinaz glacier, between Val Ferret and the Trient plateau; the Aiguille d'Argentière dominates the scenery opposite. In the peaceful surroundings, ibex and ptarmigan can often be seen, and thanks to the lack of light pollution, the starry sky above the hut is impressively clear.
