The Rugghubelhütte is located at 2296 m above Engelberg and belongs to the SAC Titlis section. The mountain hut is a popular starting point for hikes and ski tours.
The Rugghubelhütte is located at 2296 m on a high plateau above Engelberg in the canton of Obwalden and belongs to the SAC Titlis section. The serviced summer season usually lasts from the beginning of June to the end of October; thanks to the winter room, the hut is a base for tours all year round. Guests spend the night in simple multi-bed rooms, some four-bed rooms and a few cozy two-bed rooms with a little more comfort. A total of around 80 beds are available, supplemented by a winter room with additional loungers. Classic hut dishes are served in the parlor: homemade soups, carrot and cabbage salad, cheese slices, rösti made from fresh potatoes from the farmer as well as cold pancakes, accompanied by home-baked waffles and pastries. In the evening, overnight guests enjoy a multi-course menu, while a simple breakfast with marching tea is offered in the morning. The approach is usually from Engelberg via the Brunni cable car: take the cable car to Ristis and from there walk to the hut in around two and a half hours; alternatively, there is a slightly shorter ascent from the Brunni hut or a longer route from Bannalp via Rotgrätli. In winter, the hut is usually reached on skis from the Bannalp; access from Engelberg is then not possible due to the risk of avalanches and falls. The hut is a popular starting point for hikes and alpine summit tours in summer and ski tours in winter and is also suitable for families thanks to its child-friendly access. The current weather conditions, avalanche bulletin, trail conditions and any closures should be checked carefully before every tour. The first Rugghubel hut was built in 1883 and has been extended and rebuilt several times since then; a major renovation took place in 2010, the last renovation in 2011. The hut is owned by the SAC Titlis section and is now run by the hut wardens Claudia Künzli and Niklaus Stalder.

This easy hike leads above Engelberg from the top station Brunni to the Rugghubel hut. The views of the Hahnen and the Titlis are very beautiful.
