The Ringelspitzhütte SAC is located at 2000 m above the Kunkelspass in Tamins. The family-friendly mountain hut is a base for tours in the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona.
The Ringelspitzhütte SAC is located at around 2000 m on a hilltop above the Kunkelspass on the southern slope of the Ringelspitz massif in the municipality of Tamins in the canton of Graubünden, in the middle of the Sardona Tectonic Arena. It belongs to the Rätia section of the Swiss Alpine Club and is a family-friendly mountain hut and starting point for hikes, high-altitude tours and bike tours in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hut is usually open from early summer to late fall; outside of this period, a winter room is open for self-catering. During the day, a small selection of hot and cold dishes, drinks, coffee and cake are on offer; overnight guests are served a lovingly prepared multi-course dinner, a hearty breakfast and tea. The approach is exclusively on foot, the classic way from Tamins either through the Lawoitobel in around 3 hours 45 minutes with around 1350 meters of altitude difference or via the Kunkelspass in around 3 hours 30 minutes and around 1300 meters of altitude difference, alternatively from Vättis via the Grossalp in around 3 hours 30 minutes and a good 1000 meters of altitude difference. Travel by train and bus to Reichenau-Tamins with a connection to Tamins, Oberdorf or via Bad Ragaz to Vättis, Dorf; by car there are parking spaces in Tamins and at the Langwies parking lot above Vättis, the Kunkelspass is only accessible with a driving permit. From the hut, routes lead to the Ringelspitz, to the glacier mills of Alp Mora, to climbing areas on the Calanda and to surrounding peaks, and it is suitable as a stopover on multi-day excursions in the region. Before each tour, you should check the current route and avalanche information, any closures and the weather forecast. Built in 1961, the hut now offers a total of 36 beds and an additional winter room with 10 beds; it is owned by the SAC Rätia section, which maintains the facility on an ongoing basis.

Rooms

The Ringelspitzhütte offers 36 beds in simple multi-bed rooms, divided into one room with 10 beds and two rooms with 8 beds each; a tipi tent behind the hut offers four additional sleeping places. Comforters, pillows and woollen blankets are provided, a sleeping bag is obligatory and can be rented or purchased if required. A winter room with 10 beds and a wood-burning stove is available for unoccupied periods. It can be accessed by prior arrangement via a key box with a code and has a simple kitchen. The hut has three toilet cubicles and a washroom with water points; there are deliberately no showers. Electricity is generated by a solar system, which is why there may be shortages in the event of prolonged bad weather; there is no WLAN, but there is cell phone reception. Dogs are welcome, but do not sleep in the bedrooms and are given their own space in the anteroom. Reservations are mandatory both in the summer season and for the winter room. Payment is preferably made in cash, but TWINT, debit and credit cards are also accepted.

Food and drink

During the supervised period, simple hot and cold meals, drinks, coffee and cake are served for day guests. Overnight guests can enjoy a seasonal multi-course menu in the evening and a hearty breakfast in the morning with tea.
