Rifugio Terzo Alpini is located a few meters from the Grange di Valle Stretta at 1780 m.a.s.l. in the Hautes-Alpes department, between Bardonecchia (Italy) and Briancon (France).
The refuge was built by the Italian Alpine Club of Turin in 1930. As a result of the 1947 Peace Treaty, Valle Stretta was ceded to France and therefore the refuge passed into the hands of the CAF. In 1970 the CAF returned the refuge to the CAI of Turin for the symbolic amount of 1 franc. Since 2006 the refuge has belonged to the Novo family.
The refuge can accommodate up to 34 people. The rooms are as follows: 2 2-bed rooms, 2 4-bed rooms, 1 8-bed room and a 14-bed dormitory. The small rooms as well as the dormitory are equipped with wooden bunk beds. Bathrooms and showers are located on each floor and are equipped with hot water.
At Terzo Alpini the cuisine is typically Italian. The main dish is polenta served with classic condiments such as cheeses from the alpine pastures or with stew and sausage, or with venison.
Typical Piedmontese and French wines are available to choose from.
For children you will also find a tailor-made menu.

From Hotel La Betulla (100 m from the train station) take the free Line 3 shuttle to Pian del Colle.
In July and August there is a shuttle from Pian del Colle to the Grange della Valle Stretta. Tickets are purchased on board from the driver and the cost is €2.00 round trip.

Directions
By car from Bardonecchia head towards the hamlet of Les Arnauds and the hamlet of Melezet, pass them and reach Pian del Colle. Cross the French-Italian border (there are no special signs) and continue until you meet the Colle della Scala / Valle Stretta junction.
From France cross the Colle della Scala and descend until you meet the Colle della Scala / Valle Stretta junction.
Take the almost completely paved road that enters the valley and pass a few hairpin bends; continue on the flat and finally make the last two hairpin bends until you reach the Grange della Valle Stretta parking lot (5 km from Pian del Colle).
Parking
At the Grange of Valle Stretta there are several parking lots.
In July and August parking at the Stretta Valley Grange is charged (€ 3.00 per day).
