ACCESSO STRADALE
Il rifugio Gastaldi si trova nel territorio del Comune di Balme, in Provincia di Torino.
Lasciata la tangenziale nord di Torino all’uscita di Venaria, imboccare la provinciale del Parco della Mandria in direzione di Lanzo. Proseguire quindi lungo la Val d’Ala verso Ceres e Balme, da dove la strada sale rapidamente per terminare ai 1850 mt del Pian della Mussa.

ACCESSO ESTIVO
Parcheggiata l’auto al pian della Mussa imboccare a sx la strada sterrata e, attraversata la Stura sul nuovo un ponte di legno, costeggiare l’Alpe Venoni, caratteristica bergeria protetta da un curioso roccione che la sovrasta.
Il sentiero (EPT222) prosegue lungo la parte bassa del Canale delle Capre per presto svoltare a sinistra e, con molti tornanti, prendere rapidamente quota. A circa 2300 mt si raggiunge il Pian dei Morti, ampia sella erbosa dove lo sguardo si allarga su tutto il Pian della Mussa e sul resto del percorso.
Lasciare sulla destra il sentiero EPT223 che conduce al Pian Gias e, dapprima in diagonale poi con ampi tornanti raggiungere la base di una paretina rocciosa dove è attrezzata una zona per l’arrampicata. Il sentiero la evita spostandosi sulla destra, supera alcuni facili gradini rocciosi attrezzati con mancorrenti di corda, e prosegue con alcuni tornanti al margine di un valloncello. Giunti senza difficoltà ad un colletto dal quale è già possibile vedere il rifugio, si percorre ancora l’ultimo tratto pianeggiante che conduce in pochi minuti alla meta, in splendida posizione panoramica sull’ampia conca del Crot del Ciaussinè e di fronte alle vette circostanti. (ore 2,00-2,30).

ACCESSO PRIMAVERILE
La strada che sale al Pian della Mussa diviene transitabile nel mese di maggio; fino ad allora occorre seguire la pista innevata che in circa un’ora e mezza porta al fondo del pianoro. Da qui partono i vari percorsi che salgono al rifugio.

Canale d’Arnas
Percorrere in direzione Sud il Vallone D’Arnas sino al termine del bosco dove, a destra, appare l’omonimo ripido canale che si risale interamente fino a sbucare nell’ampia conca del Crot del Ciaussinè. A volte possono essere utili piccozza e ramponi per superare l’ultimo tratto del canale. Proseguire facilmente verso Sud-Ovest lungo morbidi dossi che in breve portano al rifugio, posto un centinaio di metri più in alto (ore 2-2,30).

Vecchia teleferica
Si tratta di un percorso effettuabile con neve scarsa o ben assestata. Seguire le tracce del sentiero estivo sino al Pian dei Morti; da qui risalire in direzione Ovest l’ampio pendio del Gias della Naressa. Tenendosi in prossimità della vecchia teleferica in disuso raggiungere la diroccata stazione d’arrivo e il colletto a quota 2681. Con brevissima discesa sul versante opposto raggiungere facilmente il Rifugio (ore 2,30-3,00).
