Refuge de Presset
The Refuge de Presset is located at 2514 m in the Beaufortain above La Côte-d'Aime on Lac de Presset. The CAF hut is a base for the Tour du Beaufortain, GR5 and the Pierra Menta.
The Refuge de Presset is a mountain hut of the Club Alpin Français and is located at 2514 m in the Beaufortain mountains above La Côte-d'Aime in the municipality of Aime-la-Plagne, directly above the Lac de Presset with a view of the Pierra Menta. The hut belongs to the Chambéry section and is an important base on the GRP Tour du Beaufortain, close to the GR5 and for ski crossings around Col du Bresson, Col du Grand Fond and Mont Rosset. It is generally manned in summer from around the beginning of June to the end of September; there is also a winter service from mid-January to the end of March, with a winter room available outside these times.
The kitchen offers a communal menu with homemade, mainly organic and regional dishes in the evening; at lunchtime there is a small menu and cakes, snacks and drinks during the day. Breakfast is included as standard and packed lunches can be ordered in advance, which are suitable for longer stages and overtravel.
In summer, access is usually from the Treicol, Chapelle Saint-Guérin or Cormet de Roselend parking lots. From Treicol (around 1700 m) it is around 4.5 km with around 800 meters of ascent in around 2.5 hours, from Chapelle Saint-Guérin (just under 1600 m) around 6.5 km and 920 meters of ascent in around 3 hours, from Cormet de Roselend (1968 m) around 7.6 km with around 800 meters of ascent in around 2.5 hours. In winter, the most common ascent is a ski tour from the Les Pars parking lot above Aime with a climb of around 1100 meters.
The best time to visit is snow-free summer for hikes and multi-day tours and late winter for ski and splitboard tours. Peaks such as Pierra Menta, Pointe de Presset, Aiguille de la Nova, Aiguille du Grand Fond or Roignais and stages of the Tour du Beaufortain and GR5 are accessible from the Refuge. As everywhere in the Alps, you should check current conditions, possible closures, avalanche reports and the weather forecast before every tour.
The first hut was built in 1966 and extended in 1972; the modern new building was constructed in 2012-2013 and now offers more comfort with a deliberately limited capacity of 30 beds.

Rooms
The hut offers 30 beds in five airy dormitories with six beds each; there are no private rooms. Blankets or couettes are available during the serviced period, but you are advised to bring your own sleeping bag. Reservations can only be made online via the FFCAM booking system; telephone or e-mail reservations are not possible, which is why early online booking is important due to the limited number of places. During the unattended periods, an anteroom, a simple parlor with a wood stove, gas and cooking facilities, dishes and three dormitories with a total of 18 mattresses are accessible; the sanitary area and two other dormitories remain closed, and an outdoor dry toilet is available. In summer, there is running water, indoor toilets and a simple, chargeable shower as well as electricity from photovoltaics with limited sockets for charging small devices. The hut is heated, has a separate "hors-sac" area for self-catering, indoor toilets and Wi-Fi; mobile phone reception is usually reliable, especially near the terrace. The refuge carries the "Refuges en famille" label and provides, among other things, a travel cot, high chair, games, children's cutlery and cabin shoes in various sizes. Dogs are not allowed inside, but can stay outside the hut, where a water bowl is provided. Payment is usually made in cash, by French check or with Chèques-Vacances, bank cards and bank transfers are not accepted. There are fixed meal times and a night's rest, the observance of which is crucial for good coexistence in the dormitory.Food and drink
The cuisine at the Refuge de Presset is entirely home-made and mainly uses simple, seasonal and often organic products from the region. There is a standard hot menu in the evening and a small menu at lunchtime, including raw vegetable salads, pasta such as carbonara, cheese from the Beaufortain (Beaufort) and simple desserts such as pears with chocolate sauce. Vegetarian and other special diets can be catered for by prior arrangement, and homemade packed lunches can be ordered for the next day's tour.Sleeping beds

Directions
In summer, the most popular approach starts at the Treicol parking lot above Beaufort: the marked mountain trail follows the Treicol stream and reaches the Refuge de Presset in around 2.5 hours via alpine pastures and the Col du Bresson. Alternatively, you can start at the Saint-Guérin chapel near La Côte-d'Aime, cross the reservoir and climb up steeper paths in around 3 hours. From Cormet de Roselend, the trail leads over the Col du Grand Fond to the hut in around 2.5 hours. In winter, the ski tour ascent from the Les Pars parking lot above Aime leads over forest and mountain pasture terrain and takes around 3.5 hours for a good 1100 meters in altitude; all winter approaches run through avalanche-prone terrain and require appropriate experience and equipment.Parking
The Treicol parking lot can be reached via Beaufort and the Roselend reservoir or via Arêches and the road to the Col du Pré, from which a road branches off to Treicol and the large parking lot. The Chapelle Saint-Guérin can be reached from the Tarentaise via Moutiers and Aime-la-Plagne, then on to the Côte-d'Aime and along a narrow mountain road to the chapel with parking lot. The Cormet de Roselend can be reached in summer via the D902 from Beaufort or Bourg-Saint-Maurice and offers a pass parking lot as a starting point. In winter, a cleared road leads from Aime up to the Les Pars parking lot; the ski tour ascent to the Refuge de Presset starts from there.Coordinates
