The Refuge de Larribet is located at 2072 m above Arrens-Marsous in the Val d'Azun, in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park. The hut of the French Alpine Club FFCAM is a classic base for high-altitude tours on the Balaïtous and as a stage on the Haute Randonnée Pyrénéenne. It is usually manned at weekends from the beginning of May and then continuously from mid-May to mid-October; outside these times, a winter area remains open. Overnight guests will find simple multi-bed rooms with a total of around 60 beds in four dormitories with boxes of five to six beds; in the unattended period, a separate area with 19 mattresses and blankets is available. In summer, solar panels provide light in the dormitories, gas and wood provide energy for the kitchen, hot water and heating, and water comes from the area around the refuge. The starting point for the ascent is the parking lot at the Maison du Parc / Plan d'Aste at the end of the road into the Tech Valley. From there, a marked mountain trail leads up about 5 km and around 600 meters in altitude in 2 to 3 hours via the Lac de Suyen, the Cabane de Doumblas and the valley of the Ruisseau du Larribet to the refuge located on a rocky outcrop. The hut is mainly used for multi-day trekking tours, ski and snowshoe tours in winter and as a family destination to the nearby Batcrabère lakes. Current conditions, possible trail closures and the weather forecast should be carefully checked before each tour. The construction of the current refuge dates back to an initiative of the Club Alpin Français de Lourdes-Cauterets; the building was completed in the mid-1950s, officially inaugurated in 1956 and thoroughly renovated and enlarged in the early 1990s.

Open May 14, 2026 through Oct 18, 2026.

Rooms

The Refuge de Larribet offers simple multi-bed accommodation with a total of around 60 beds, spread over four dormitories with boxes of five to six beds. Pillows and blankets are provided, but a sleeping bag or light sleeping bag is strongly recommended. In the unattended period, an area with 19 mattresses and around 30 blankets remains open as a winter room. The large living room with wooden tables and benches forms the center of life in the hut. There are washing facilities, toilets in the entrance area and a hot shower for a fee; water, electricity from solar panels and gas are only available to a limited extent, so economical consumption is important. Reservations for the serviced period are made via the FFCAM online reservation system or by telephone; in the unattended period, no reservations are made and the pitches are occupied on arrival.

Food and drink

During the serviced period, the hut team serves simple, hearty mountain cuisine with dinner, breakfast, half board, full board and packed lunches. The small kitchen produces omelettes and a popular blueberry tartelette, which is particularly appreciated after a long day of touring.

Directions

From the parking lot at the Maison du Parc / Plan d'Aste at the end of the D105, follow the marked mountain trail via the Lac de Suyen and the Cabane de Doumblas into the narrow valley of the Ruisseau du Larribet. There are around 600 meters of ascent over a distance of around 5 km, for which you should allow 2 to 3 hours depending on your fitness level.

Parking

In summer, the parking lot at the Maison du Parc Porte d'Arrens (Plan d'Aste) at the end of the D105 is the official starting point with numerous parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the national park information center. In snowy winters, the road is closed earlier for safety reasons, then the parking lot at the Barrière de Boey serves as the starting point, which significantly extends the walk to the refuge.
