The Planura hut is located at 2947 m in the Glarus Alps between the Hüfi and Sand glaciers. The SAC hut of the Tödi section is an important base for Tödi and Clariden.
The Planura hut is situated at 2947 m on the Planura rock between the Hüfi and Sand glaciers, right on the watershed between the cantons of Glarus and Uri. As the mountain hut of the Tödi SAC section, it is the highest SAC hut in eastern Switzerland and a classic base for challenging ski, high-altitude and glacier tours. From here, routes lead to Tödi/Piz Russein, Clariden, Gross Schärhorn, Chammliberg, Heimstock and Piz Cazarauls as well as to neighboring huts such as Claridenhütte and Hüfihütte. The hut is typically manned in spring from mid-March to the beginning of May during the ski touring season and in summer from around mid-June to the end of September; outside of these times, a small winter room is available. The kitchen offers half-board with simple, hearty meals, cakes and drinks; self-catering is only possible to a limited extent as water and supplies are limited. Depending on the route, the approaches require long ascents and some glacier passages: From Tierfehd via Ober Sand it takes around 7 hours and around 2240 meters of altitude, from the Klausen Pass via the Chammlijoch it takes around 3½ to 5 hours with a good 1100 vertical meters, from the Hüfihütte via the Hüfifirn about 3 hours with 600 vertical meters, from the Val Russein via the Sandpass about 6 to 7 hours. Many variants run over crevasse-rich glaciers, where rope safety and appropriate experience are required. The hut was built in 1929/30 according to plans by architect Hans Leuzinger as a compact natural stone structure directly on the rock and was extended in 1965 without losing its characteristic expression. Today it is mainly used as a stopover and base on multi-day round tours through the Glarus Alps, in winter and summer. Anyone planning a tour should always find out about current conditions, closures and weather forecasts in advance and adapt their route accordingly.

Rooms
The Planura Hut offers 41 beds in mattress dormitories with blankets; a light sleeping bag is obligatory. There is hardly any electricity, the water comes from snow and rainwater, the washing facilities are correspondingly basic, and there is no water in winter. Hut shoes are available. A small winter room with four beds is also open when the hut is not in use; it has no electricity, only a wood-burning stove for heating, you must bring your own equipment for cooking and the room can be very cold. Reservations for the winter room must be made by e-mail. During the serviced season, reservations can only be made by telephone, and a no-show fee may be charged for cancellations at short notice in accordance with SAC regulations. Payment can be made by credit card. The hut telephone can be reached on +41 41 885 16 65, the general contact address is info@planurahuette.ch. There is usually cell phone reception in the area, which is helpful in an emergency, but is no substitute for careful tour planning.Food and drink
The Planura Hut offers half board with dinner, breakfast and tea on the march; in addition, simple hot and cold meals, cakes and drinks are available. Self-catering can only be accommodated to a limited extent due to the limited infrastructure.Sleeping beds
