Orny hut

The Orny hut, officially Cabane d'Orny CAS, stands at 2831 m in the Mont Blanc group in the Valais above Orsières, between small lakes on the edge of the Glacier d'Orny. It belongs to the SAC Diablerets section and dates back to a hut built in 1893; the current building dates from 1975 and a training wing was added in 1985. During the summer season, the hut is manned and offers 86 beds in dormitories with comforters; outside, there is only an unattended emergency room without gas, water and beds. Simple meals are served at lunchtime, half-board in the evening with dinner and breakfast as well as Valais wines; vegetarian and allergen-conscious menus are available on request. The quickest way to reach the hut from Champex-Lac is via the Télésiège La Breya and the subsequent mountain trail in around 2 hours 15 minutes; alternatively, trails lead from Champex or Praz-de-Fort through the Combe d'Orny or the Vallon d'Arpette de Saleinaz, both in around 4 hours 30 minutes. The months from June to October are particularly suitable for high-altitude tours, climbs and crossings to the Cabane du Trient or Cabane de Saleinaz; conditions, closures and weather reports should be checked before each tour.
