Neuvehütte

The Neuvehütte (Cabane de l'A Neuve) is a simple SAC mountain hut at 2735 m above the village of La Fouly in the Swiss Val Ferret, municipality of Orsières in the canton of Valais. It is perched on a narrow rocky spur directly opposite the glacier basin below Grand Darray, Mont Dolent, Tour Noir, Grande Lui and Aiguille de l'Amône and belongs to the Diablerets section of the Swiss Alpine Club. The hut offers 28 beds and has been carefully renovated in recent years without losing its rustic character. It is usually open in two seasons from around mid-March to mid-May and from mid-June to mid-September; outside of these periods, an unattended winter room is available, the use of which should be arranged in advance with the hut crew. The ascent begins in the village of La Fouly at the campsite and follows the Reuse de l'Amône stream via the Pierre Javelle point, before two passages secured with chains have to be overcome in steeper serpentines. You should plan around 3.5 hours walking time and around 1160 vertical meters for the ascent. The hut serves as a starting point for challenging high-altitude tours in the Swiss part of the Mont Blanc massif, for example on Grand Darray, Grande Lui, Tour Noir or Mont Dolent, and as a stopover on multi-day crossings with neighboring huts such as Saleina, Trient or Orny. The best time to visit for hikers and mountaineers is usually between June and September, ski tours are possible in good winters in spring. Current conditions, avalanche and weather conditions and any route closures should be checked before each tour. The hut was built in 1926 and inaugurated in 1927 as Cabane Édouard Dufour, named after the patron and alpinist Edouard Dufour; today it is one of the SAC's traditional lodgings.
