Die Martinsmadhütte liegt in einer wilden Landschaft oberhalb Elm, eingebettet zwischen den Zwölfihörnern und dem Laaxer Stöckli am Nordabfall des Vorab.
Die Martinsmadhütte ist nur im Sommer geöffnet und steht allen Bergsteigern und Bergwanderern offen. Die Hütte bietet schöne Hochtouren, markierte Wanderungen, Plaisir-Klettereien, einen hüttennahen Klettergarten mit einfachen Routen, eine Kinderseilbahn sowie etwas oberhalb der Hütte einen Klettergarten für Anfänger und Könner. Die Martinsmad ist eine typische Sommerhütte, von einem Besuch im Winter ist abzuraten. Die Zustiege sind mit Schnee heikel und es gibt keine lohnenden Skitourenmöglichkeiten.

Im Juli und August ist die Hütte durchgehend bewartet. 
Im Juni und September ist die Hütte an den Wochenenden geöffnet.
Die Bewartung unter der Woche ist reservations- und wetterabhängig.
