Die Königsjagdhütte wurde 1888 als geräumiges Blockhaus auf dem Plateau des Steingarts durch den damaligen Kronprinzen Wilhelm von Württem-berg (König ab 06.10.1891) erbaut. Die Hütte ist wohl deswegen so bescheiden ausgefallen, weil der auf Sparsamkeit bedachte Kronprinz sich nicht dem Vorwurf aussetzen wollte, er habe zuviel Geld ausgegeben, zumal zwischen 1807 und 1811, nach der Säkularisation, unter König Fried-rich im ehemaligen Kloster Beben-hausen das Abtshaus bereits zum königlichen Jagdschloss umgebaut worden war. Weitere umfangreiche Ausbauten in den Klosteranlagen erfolgten dann nochmals unter König Karl (1864-1891).
Über den Postbotenweg erhielt der König, wenn er auf der Königsjagdhütte weilte, wichtige Nachrichten.
Heute ist die Königsjagdhütte ein aus allen Richtungen gut zu erreichendes, beliebtes Ausflugsziel.
