Rooms

Today, the Finsteraarhornhütte offers 116 beds in friendly multi-bed rooms with 10 to 12 beds, most of which are single beds with comforters and pillows. There is a spacious lounge, washrooms and toilets in the hut as well as sufficient running water in summer; in winter, water usually has to be obtained by melting snow. In addition, a separate winter room with 10 beds, a wood stove and cooking and eating utensils is open all year round; advance reservation by telephone with the hut warden is requested. There is no mobile phone reception in the hut, but there is an emergency telephone. A light hut sleeping bag is obligatory, silk sleeping bags can be purchased on site. Overnight stays are usually by reservation, especially in the ski touring season. Payment can also be made by credit card; other payment methods should be clarified in advance.

Food and drink

During the serviced period, the hut team serves drinks and simple dishes from a small daily menu during the day. In the evening, a half-board menu with soup, main course with salad or vegetables and dessert is offered at 6 pm; vegetarian meals or meals adapted to allergies are possible by prior arrangement, vegan cuisine is not offered. Breakfast is adjusted according to the tour destination and weather conditions and is substantial for a high-altitude accommodation.

Directions

From the Jungfraujoch, the normal ascent takes around 5 to 6 hours over the Jungfraufirn down to the Konkordiaplatz, continuing over the Grüneggfirn to the Grünhornlücke and then crossing over the Fiescher Glacier up to the hut, with an ascent of around 660 m and a descent of around 1050 m.
