Dossenhütte

The Dossenhütte of the SAC Oberaargau section stands at 2663 m on the narrow ridge between Rosenlaui and Urbachtal in the Bernese Oberland. The hut serves as a starting point for high-altitude tours on the Dossen, Ränfenhorn, Rosenhorn, Mittelhorn and Wetterhorn as well as for crossings to the Gaulihütte, for example. It is usually open from the end of June to mid-September, making summer and early fall the best time to visit. The ascent usually takes three to four hours from Rosenlaui or the glacier gorge via a blue and white marked, partly exposed mountain trail with steps, slabs, wire ropes and ladders and an altitude difference of around 1,300 meters. Alternatively, you can reach the hut in around six hours via the Urbachtal valley from Mürvorsess. Due to the exposed passages, surefootedness and a head for heights are required, and the ascent is not recommended in thunderstorms or heavy rain. Before each tour, you should check the current trail conditions, any closures and the weather forecast. The first Dossenhütte was built in 1879 and was demolished in 1884 due to glacier advance; in 1899, the Oberaargau section built the current hut at its present location and later carefully extended it.
