Doldenhornhütte

The Doldenhornhütte is situated at 1915 m on a hilltop above Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland and belongs to the SAC Emmental section. From the terrace, the view extends into the Kandertal valley, across to Lake Oeschinen and to the Doldenhorn, Fisistock and other peaks of the Bernese Alps. The hut is a popular mountain hut and serves as a starting point for alpine tours to the Doldenhorn or the Bibergpass and Fisistöcke. It is serviced in the summer season and is currently scheduled to reopen from mid-May to mid-October 2026 following the major renovation in 2025; outside of this period, a simple shelter is available. Day and overnight guests are served drinks, simple hot meals and half-board with regional products in a simple, cozy restaurant. The approach usually starts at Kandersteg railroad station and leads to the hut via Öschiwald and Bärentritt or via Waldhotel Doldenhorn and Undere/Obere Biberg in a good 2 to 3 hours over an altitude difference of around 750 meters. Due to the alpine location and individual rope-secured passages, current trail conditions, possible closures in the Spitzer Stein area and the weather forecast should be checked carefully before each tour. The first wooden hut with 12 places was built in 1899 by the Kandersteg Mountain Guides' Association, taken over by the SAC Emmental section in 1902 and replaced in 1926 by a stone building with later extensions; a comprehensive renovation will take place in 2025/26.
