The Corno Gries hut at 2,338 m is located in Val Corno above Bedretto in Ticino. The SAC hut is the starting point for hikes, ski tours and mountain bike tours.
The Corno Gries hut is located at 2,338 m in Val Corno above Bedretto in the upper Bedretto Valley, between the Nufenen Pass and the Italian Val Formazza. Its modern architecture with a glazed wrap-around structure has earned it the nickname "Alpine spaceship" and offers sweeping 360-degree views. The hut belongs to the SAC Rossberg section and is usually open from the end of June to the beginning of October and in March and April; in between, a small winter room is available for reservation. During the day, the team serves a small but delicious selection of hot and cold dishes with products from Ticino, while in the evening overnight guests enjoy a three-course menu and a hearty breakfast in the morning. The quickest way to reach the hut in summer is from Alpe Cruina in about an hour and around 300 meters in altitude; longer ascents lead from All Acqua or via Ladstafel and Mändeli in around three hours. In winter, access is from All Acqua on skis or snowshoes. The hut is the starting point for hikes, family vacations, ski and snowshoe tours as well as stages on long-distance hiking trails such as the GTA or Via Alta Idra. The current conditions, avalanche situation, trail status and opening times should be checked before each tour. The first stone hut at this location was built in 1927, enlarged in 1933 and renovated in 1979; it acquired its current character with the extensive renovation in 2007 and has been owned by the Rossberg SAC section since 2017.
