The chalet La Grange de Holle is located at 1495 m above Gavarnie in the French Pyrenees. It is a peaceful base for hikes around the Cirque de Gavarnie.
The Chalet La Grange de Holle is an FFCAM mountain chalet above the village of Gavarnie in the central area of the French Pyrenees at 1495 m above sea level. The former sheepfold was acquired by the Club Alpin Français in 1976, has been managed as a hut since 1977 and was reopened as a modern chalet in 2002 following extensions. Today it offers 62 beds in multi-bed rooms with 1 to 12 beds, a large dining room with fireplace, seminar rooms and sanitary blocks on several floors. The hut is usually open from the end of December to the end of March and from the beginning of May to the end of October and serves as a base for the GR10, Haute Route Pyrénéenne and tours in the Gavarnie massif. The cuisine offers simple, hearty, traditional dishes; dinner, breakfast, half-board and packed lunches can be booked in advance, and self-catering is also possible with a supplement. The hut can be reached from Gavarnie in around 10-15 minutes on foot, alternatively the road towards Col des Tentes leads around 1.5 km up to the parking lot right next to the house. The best times to visit are winter (January to March) for snow activities and May to October for hiking. Before each tour, the current weather situation, conditions, possible closures and avalanche risk should be checked.

Rooms

The Grange de Holle is a year-round serviced base (usually closed in April, November and until Christmas) with 62 beds in simple but cozy multi-bed rooms with 1 to 12 beds. The rooms are equipped with blankets, in summer a hut sleeping bag or light sleeping bag is recommended; bed linen can be rented in some cases. The house has sanitary facilities and showers on several floors, hot water, heating, electricity and numerous sockets. There is a large lounge and dining room with a fireplace, a separate self-catering/hors-sac zone and a seminar room. According to the operator, Wi-Fi is available and the chalet is also barrier-free with access and individual rooms for people with reduced mobility. There are no plans to use the winter room outside of the serviced times; the chalet remains completely closed out of season. Reservations, especially for groups, are strongly recommended and can be made via the online system or by calling the chalet manager Philippe Cordier.

Food and drink

The hut offers serviced full board with traditional, simple cuisine: a hot meal in the evening, plus breakfast and packed lunches on request. Half-board is offered at all-inclusive prices and meals are usually served around 7 p.m.; those arriving later should clarify this in advance. In some cases, self-catering with use of the kitchen is possible, for which a daily supplement is charged.
