The Chalet du Gros Morond is located at 1321 m in the Mont d'Or ski area above Longévilles-Mont-d'Or. The CAF hut with 30 camps is a base for hikers and ski tours.
The Chalet du Gros Morond is a mountain chalet run by the Club Alpin Français Haut Doubs at 1321 m on the western slope of Mont d'Or above Longévilles-Mont-d'Or in the Jura massif. Located in the heart of the Métabief ski area and close to the GR 5 and the Grande Traversée du Jura, it is a perfect base for multi-day hikes, snowshoe and ski tours. The simple, comfortable building was created in the mid-1960s by converting a mountain hut and today offers 30 beds in four bedrooms, a large lounge, central heating, showers and a drying room. In the snow-free season, a forest road leads almost to the house; in winter, the hut can be reached in around 30 minutes from the Superlongevilles parking lot on skis or snowshoes or via the Métabief lifts. By train, take the Dole-Pontarlier line to Frasne and continue by bus to Métabief, from where it is about an hour's walk. The hut is manned at weekends and during the French school vacations, and can be used as a self-catering hut in between. Before each tour, you should check the current opening times, weather and snow conditions as well as any closures.

Rooms

The Chalet du Gros Morond sleeps up to 30 people in four simple but well-kept dormitories with camp beds; you are expected to bring your own hut sleeping bags. The large parlor with seating for around 60 people and a terrace serves as a meeting place for groups. Central heating and a wood-burning stove provide warmth, there are showers and a changing and drying room for wet equipment. The hut is staffed by volunteers from the CAF Haut Doubs, early booking is mandatory and must be made through the hut manager. Outside of the serviced periods, the entire building remains open as a self-catering hut with water, crockery, cooking facilities and heating. Payment is usually made in cash, by check or bank transfer; cards are not accepted. A private parking lot is available for guests during snow-free periods.

Food and drink

The chalet's kitchen is well equipped with cooking facilities, pots, crockery and running water so that guests can prepare their own meals. There is no fixed half-board offer; in practice, the chalet is used as self-catering accommodation.
