Cabane du Grand-Mountet

The mountain hut, officially Cabane du Grand Mountet, stands at 2886 m above the Zinal glacier in the far Val d'Anniviers and belongs to the SAC Diablerets section. From Zinal, a marked mountain trail leads through the valley and over moraines to the hut in around five to six hours and with an elevation gain of around 1200 meters; in the upper part, the approach runs on the right side of the glacier and is secured in places with fixed ropes. The hut is open in spring from mid-March to the beginning of May and in summer from the end of June to mid-September; outside these periods, a winter room is open. Thanks to its location in the heart of the "Couronne impériale", it serves as a starting point for combined glacier and high-altitude tours to peaks such as Besso, Zinalrothorn, Obergabelhorn, Grand Cornier or Dent Blanche, but is also used by experienced mountain hikers as a stage destination. Before each tour, the current trail conditions, any closures on the summer trail and the weather forecast should be carefully checked.
