Spartan but magnificent bivouac located on the karst plateau of Foran dal Mus, on the massif of Mount Canin. Ibex, edelweiss and breathtaking views distinguish it.
The bivouac is named after Elio Marussich, a young mountaineer from Trieste who died in 1973, and was built by the CAT (Club alpinistico triestino) in 1979 in his honor. It is a typical sheet metal structure that offers the bare essentials for spending a night at altitude.
Located near sella Grubia, between the peak of the same name and Picco di Carnizza, it is a must-see destination for those who want to hike among the bizarre shapes of Foran dal Mus, the karst plateau of the Canin massif, sculpted by water and ice.
It offers an excellent foothold for those who travel the Resiana altavia or want to reach the summit of Mount Sart. It is also a destination for the Foran dal Mus Geological Trail, from which you can then descend in the direction of Sella Nevea via Casera Goriuda.
It can be reached in about 2h from the Gilberti refuge by taking CAI trail No. 632, or in 1h 30 from Casera Goriuda by taking CAI trail No. 645.

Train
The nearest useful stations are Stazione Carnia, Pontebba and Tarvisio Boscoverde, all three more than 20km from Sella Nevea. Check connections with bus lines.
Directions
Sella Nevea can be easily reached from:
Chiusaforte - Driving along the SS-13 Pontebbana in the direction of Tarvisio, once in Chiusaforte turn right (signs present) onto the SP76, which runs through the entire valley to Sella Nevea;
Tarvisio - From the village take the SS54 in the direction of Cave del Predil. After passing the village and arriving near Lago del Predil, keep right to pred the SP76 that leads to Sella Nevea.
To reach the Gilberti refuge, you can either take CAI trail No. 635 or take the Canin gondola. Info on costs and schedules by clicking here

Several large, free, unattended parking lots are available at Sella Nevea.
