Die Hütte gehört zur Bergwacht Thüringen und liegt in der Nähe des Falkensteins, einem markanten Felsen und beliebten Klettergebiet im Thüringer Wald. Der Falkenstein ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel und bietet neben Klettermöglichkeiten auch schöne Wanderwege und einen tollen Ausblick auf die Umgebung. Die Bergwachthütte dient als Stützpunkt für Rettungseinsätze und bietet Wanderern und Kletterern eine Schutzhütte.
