Sehr guter Ausgangspunkt für Bergwanderungen zu Schwarzeck, Heugstatt, Enzian und Hochstein.
Im Winter Einkehrmöglichkeit an der Auerhahn-Höhenloipe von Eck zum Bretterschachten.

Auf der Strecke zwischen Arnbruck und Bodenmais biegt man nach Oberried ab und fährt dann Richtung Riedlberg. Am Waldrand biegt man links zum Weiler Schönbach ab und fährt anfangs auf Sandstraße nach Schareben.
Die kürzeste Zufahrt von Arnbruck ist nicht zu empfehlen (größtenteils schmaler Schotterweg mit Dachprofil).
