The royal retreat at an altitude of 1167 meters
Mountain Guesthouse Bleckenau
The royal retreat at 1167 meters elevation
Bleckenau is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the entire region, located in the Ammergebirge nature reserve. The former hunting and weekend house of King Ludwig II is situated above the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein, nestled in a magnificent landscape. The hut was built between 1846 and 1850 in Swiss style, which is why the term "Switzerland House in Bleckenau" occasionally appears. The builder at that time, King Maximilian II, had the hut constructed as a gift for his wife Marie, later Queen Marie.
Since 1919, the hut has been operated by the Schweiger family from Schwangau. The excellent cuisine of Florian Schweiger delights the palates of every hiker with Bavarian delicacies and delicious game dishes. The sunny terrace in front of the hut invites visitors to linger and relax. Those who are not in good shape or wish to shorten their mountain tour can use the Bleckenau shuttle bus. The "Ammergebirgs-Taxi" runs to/from Hohenschwangau (the stop is opposite the Hohenschwangau information center) at fixed mountain and valley departure times.
