Arpitetta hut

The Arpitettaz Hut (Cabane d'Arpitettaz) stands at 2786 m at the very back of the Val d'Anniviers above Zinal, directly at the western foot of the Weisshorn and opposite the Blanc de Moming and Moming glaciers. It belongs to the La Dôle section of the Swiss Alpine Club and offers 32 sleeping places in camps during the manned season. Developed in 1953 by mountain guides from the Val d'Anniviers, it was later taken over by the SAC and extended in 2015, since when it has been a simple but comfortable stone hut. It is open from mid-March to around the beginning of May and during the summer months; outside of these times, part of the hut remains open as a winter room with a maximum capacity of 14 people. The approach starts in Zinal and leads along the Navisence stream and over the Lac d'Arpitettaz to the hut, depending on the route via Le Chiesso or over the somewhat more exposed Pas du Chasseur, taking around 4 to 4½ hours to walk and covering around 1180 meters in altitude. The hut is an important base for high-altitude tours on the Weisshorn, Besso, Blanc de Moming or for the traverse to the Cabane de Tracuit and can be easily integrated into multi-day routes in the far Val d'Anniviers. The main season for hikers is usually from June to September, for ski and spring tours it's the well-maintained spring. Before each tour, you should carefully check the current status reports, possible trail closures and the weather and avalanche situation.
