Die Alp Hangbaum liegt zuhinterst im Grosstal. Sie breitet sich auf rund 1700 bis 1800 m ü. M. unterhalb des Schlieren und des Urirotstocks aus. Im Süden grenzt die Alp an den Blüemlisalpfirn.
Auf der Alp werden rund drei Tonnen Alpkäse hergestellt. Dieser wird vor allem privat verkauft.
