Starting from Saint-Lary, this easy route takes you along old balcony paths to the village of Tramezaygues, built at the foot of its fortress and its Romanesque church.

Along Ski Slopes into the Neste-d’Aure ValleyOn today’s stage, the landscape is dominated by the Saint-Lary ski resort and its expanding infrastructure. For much of the route, the GR 10 runs along the grassy ski slopes. A gentle climb takes you up to the top station of a six-person chairlift at Col de Portet, 2,215 m. Since this station is also accessible by road, it’s usually quite bustling here. In addition to numerous day hikers and people enjoying the view, quite a few road cyclists are pedaling their way up to the pass. Given the poorly marked section of trail still ahead of us, the desire to hop on a bike surely crosses the minds of some “GR 10 hikers.” Those who aren’t lucky enough to get a ride from particularly accommodating road cyclists eventually set off on the trail—which is arduous in places—toward the valley. The shaded but steep final descent ultimately takes us down to Vielle-Aure quite quickly.
