The Kyst til Kyst Stien is a spectacular long-distance hiking trail in Denmark that takes you from the west to the east coast. Historical Walks – Denmark’s Largest Refugee Camp, A Hidden History. In Aal Plantage, Oksbøl, lies the story of Denmark’s largest refugee camp (1945–49). Up to 36,000 people lived here in a former military camp. They were German citizens who were evacuated to Denmark in the first half of 1945.

Nature hike around Vejers Beach

The Baldersbæk Quality Trail is a hiking trail certified by the Danish Hiking Association. Baldersbæk – Holme Å and the Copenhagen Plantations. Villa Baldersbæk is located near Holme Å. There is a circular trail of approximately four kilometers (red route) around Villa Baldersbæk. The route takes you through the gardens with lakes—which were originally carp ponds—across Holme Å, and through woods, marshes, heathland, and meadows. These areas are rich in both culture and nature. Villa Baldersbæk was built in 1910 by merchant and manufacturer Holger Petersen. He spearheaded the effort to recruit wealthy individuals from Copenhagen who could finance the afforestation of the heath in the late 1800s. The plantations here are therefore known as the “Copenhagen Plantations.” Holger Petersen himself planted Baldersbæk Plantation, where the country estate Villa Baldersbæk is located. At Holme Å, you’ll find the Treherred Stone, which marks the point where three herreds met. Herreds were a historical administrative division of the country. Today, it is the point where the municipalities of Vejen, Varde, and Billund meet. Please note that the garden near the villa is private and not open to the public.
