Hiking in Traize

The Via Gebennensis is the continuation of the Swiss Way of St. James and runs from Geneva to Le Puy-en-Velay.

The Via Gebennensis connects the Swiss Jacob's ways from Geneva with the Via Podiensis, which starts in Le Puy-en-Velay and from there leads westward to the Pyrenees.

The via Gebennensis invites you to walk through the rolling Savoy countryside, along the Rhône river and vineyards, with views of the Alps. This itinerary, steeped in history, promises you to recharge your batteries and unwind.

From Seyssel, the route follows the banks of the Rhône. You cross the Chautagne poplar grove before arriving at the pretty village of Chanaz, along the Canal de Savière.

It was a nice hike, if it hadn't been for the route behind the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Montagne—there's no trail there (anymore?).

The GR© runs alongside the Rhône before entering the Savoy vineyards under the protection of the Dent du Chat mountain. On arrival in the village of Yenne, don't forget to taste the soft Savoy cake, as this is where it was invented.

you'll have to cross Mont Tourbier before reaching the banks of the Guiers. A stop at ND-Dame de la Montagne, a nod to Lyon's Fourvière basilica, is a must. On arrival, the Saint-Genix praline brioche rewards your efforts.
