Hiking in Proleb

This relatively short hiking circuit runs largely on unknown and unmarked paths and is also very suitable as a bad weather route.

A very idyllic and rather peaceful mid-mountain route on the sunny side of the Mur Valley near Leoben, partly on almost unknown paths and trails.

For me as a Lower Austrian and Styrian enthusiast, it was something like a hidden gem that caught my eye on the hiking map. This turned into a hike on December 18, 2015 (it was snow-free and relatively mild), which I really enjoyed.

Sunlit summit off the beaten tourist pathsIn the immediate vicinity of the three towns Trofaiach, Leoben and Bruck an der Mur, the Kletschachkogel gently rises. Yet the crowds mostly do not find their way to the scenic summit. Hikers who enjoy orienting themselves will be rewarded with a south-facing mountain panorama.

The nature trail Seegraben is located in the Erzberg-Leoben region.

Kotzalm, Kletschachalm and a surprisingly large panorama5 times K: Kotzgraben, Kotzalm, Kletschachalm and Kletschachkogel. Great! This circular hike in the southernmost part of the Hochschwab group, which is represented by the two mountain groups around Kletschachkogel and Thalerkogel between Vordernbergertal and Lamingtal, which runs from Kapfenberg to Tragöß, leads us from Kotzgraben near St. Dionysen to the fantastically situated Kotzalm, which is also occasionally open in summer. It may only be a good 1160 m above sea level, but the panorama and the view down into the Mur valley are incredibly beautiful! We then climb the Kotzalmhöhe, hike to the lovely Kletschachalm and reach the Kletschachkogel via wide alpine meadows, from whose summit cross we can see - once again - the extensive limestone plateau of the central Hochschwab massif with Brandstein, Ebenstein & Co. The way back runs through the long Kotzgraben, whereby the varied forest road can be rated as "pleasant" and "easy to walk".

A nice little round trip from the Laintal to Bruck an der Mur. You can park in Laintal III Trasttal on the right side by the parking sign along the road. Walk a little way along the road, turn left over the bridge then immediately right onto the somewhat overgrown forest road. The first place you reach is the Kaintalegg, from there continue towards Kreuzsattel - Kletschachkogel - Kotzeggerkreuz - Kotzalm, the perfect spot for a little break, then continue to Madereck. From there the descent continues to Bruck an der Mur.

Fazit der Tour: Eine schöne Kammwanderung, die jedoch hauptsächlich über Forststraßen führt. Die Markierung lässt allerdings sehr zu wünschen übrig, bzw. ist die Wegfindung ohne Karte oder GPS schwierig. Speziell im Bereich von Kaintalegg bis zur Jagdhütte Kosak ist die Markierung sehr spärlich bzw. nicht vorhanden/falsch!!!
