A pleasant walk around the centre of Villa Lagarina and Nogaredo, passing through several villages on the Destra Adige Lagarina

From Noarna to Castellano along the hilly route of the Destra Adige Lagarina.

Between the mills of PedersanoWalking along certain hillsides, along ancient paths that connect farms and villages, recalling the history of small and large communities, always generates emotions that remain bent when driving around in a car in a valley floor. So it is with this walk that reaches the farmsteads between Piazzo and Pedersano, hamlets of Villa Lagarina. According to some historians, the latter corresponded to the seat of the Lombard Count de Lagare, mentioned by Paolo Diacono in his Historia Langobardorum (end of the 8th century) and for a time capital of the Lombard kingdom. However, Villa Lagarina - today the industrial centre for paper and wine-growing area - has a considerable number of 18th-century mansions, such as the Villa of the Guerrieri Gonzaga, famous for its park (open on special occasions). Palazzo Libera, on the other hand, a detached seat of the Diocesan Museum of Trento, houses the liturgical heritage of the Baroque parish of the Assumption, rebuilt at the expense of the Lodron counts; a jewel of art is the Chapel of St. Rupert (1621 - 1629), built by Count Paride Lodron, Archbishop of Salzburg, as a chapel for his parents.

From the Isera shopping center, we depart in a large group on a steady climb first to the small village of Reviano and then re-entering among fields, vineyards, meadows on secondary roads, little traveled even if paved. Every now and then, however, a cobbled or gravel stretch, reminding us of the age of these roads. We arrive at Sasso di Noarna (church of St. Matthew) where a poster tells that in these lands (in the entire then municipality of Nogaredo in truth) there was, in 1647, one of the last witch trials in Trentino. Then we reach Noarna (church of St. Valentine) and climb again returning to the woods, for a steep stretch,  until we get to Castellano (chapel to the Fallen at the beginning of the village, then the parish church of St. Lorenzo). Not far from the village, in the southern part, stands the ancient manor belonging to the great families of Lagarina through the centuries. We climb, a little more, up to the Gatom meadow where we stop to eat our "substantial" lunch. Then we start to go down crossing the Rio Cavazzini until we turn off for the Coelom waterfall, a splendid water jump that anticipates, just below, that of Pisavacca. After group photos near the waterfall, we pass in the lower part of the town of Patone and, after crossing the road that goes down, we head on a forest road towards our tasty snack at Agritur De Biasi (https://www.biodebiasi.com/). After the excellent snack (many of us also bought the farm’s products) we go down first to Folas and then to Isera, where we pick up the cars. On the path of the "Kalendae"The denomination “Path of the Kalendae” remembers of the old events of the Calendimaggio, heathen holidays who were converted into Christian traditions and processions in May, basically events that have survived in many different countries where the people walk to large crosses outside their villages in order to bless the fields and the inhabitants. A religious feeling completely different to the disgusting trails witches had to face that were common in the 17th century throughout all of Europe as well as here in the Trentino region. The count Lodron of Nogaredo had his seat in the same palace where the inquisition’s court condemned four local women to be burned alive. Nogaredo is now known for its wine and the agriculture and the palace Lodron (today Relais Palazzo Lodron, tel: 0464 413152) functions as an eye-catcher. The aristocratic residence has a large courtyard and large areas with vines, surrounded by walls. One corner has a stone fountain that shows the crest of Lodron: a lion.
