Culture to finish in the town of Gedern with its plain basalt church and the spacious castle complex with its good gastronomy.

The 1,200-year-old town of Laubach with its historic old town is a worthwhile starting point. Above it lies the 600-year-old castle built in the English style, right next to a large spa park. Our hike begins through many alleys left over from the Middle Ages. Built on a former volcanic vent is the half-timbered village of Stornfels. A detour (accommodation!) to Schotten with its Vulkaneum Museum is worthwhile.

In the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park, it was hot during the early Tertiary. At that time, Europe’s largest volcano was active. Today, about seven million years later, it has left behind a relatively small but first-class hiking area. Instead of a large volcanic cone with the characteristic vent, basalt mountains rise with heights from 300 to 750 meters. Rock ribs and block fields, mixed forest, dry grassland, and scattered orchards are framed by rows of trees and hedges. The cultural landscape of the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park is crisscrossed by numerous long-distance hiking trails. At the most beautiful spots, award-winning extra tours have been laid out as circular day hikes, so that the hiking guest staying in the region can explore a different exciting corner of the Vogelsberg landscape every day. All this is also offered by the Vulkanring as a 125 km long long-distance hiking trail. It runs in a large circle in the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park and connects natural beauties, evidence of volcanic activity, and hospitable little towns. Wonderful views alternate with quiet forests, rustic wild streams with tranquil ponds.
