Hiking in Modena

An ancient 18th-century trail commissioned by Francesco III d’Este that connects Modena to the sea at Massa through the Apennines and the Apuan Alps.

Stage M1: Modena – Puianello (27.65 km | +497 m / -86 m)

The Romea Strata is an itinerary with 82 stages covering 1400 km through six Italian regions.

We are on the main route of the Via Romea Strata from Tarvisio (Friuli Venezia Giulia) to Fucecchio (Tuscany) where the path joins the Via Francigena. The territory of Emilia Romagna begins with the beautiful crossing of the Po River, which propels us toward the Abbey of Nonantola, the religious powerhouse of the entire area. Along the way we encounter Modena with its cultural and religious riches. From the Croce Arcana Pass, where we cross the Apennines, the panorama opens up to see the Tyrrhenian Sea. The enogastronomy of the area offers us many specialties of stuffed pasta and special sausages such as culatello and mortadella, all washed down with excellent Lambrusco wine.

Tappa pianeggiante lungo il torrente Tiepido, una volta usciti di città si percorre principalmente una ciclabile sterrata molto agevole. Due deviazioni rispetto al percorso "ufficiale", la prima per approvvigionamenti e l'altra dettata dal percorso stesso.
