Hiking in Košice-Sever

A stage of the Cesta Hrdinov SNP, the historic Slovak Heroes' Trail from Košice to Kysak. The path largely coincides with the Slovak part of the long-distance trail E8.

We climb a ridge route with sporting value and historical significance to the pine-forested panoramic peak of Kojsói-havas above Košice, and halfway there we can use a renovated shelter offering dining and lodging. Along the way, we encounter the diverse mountains of the Gömör-Szepesi Ore Mountains with clearings, pine and beech forests, and at the end of our trip, we explore the ore-rich Ida stream valley that enriches the region.

A circular hike to Sokoľ Castle. Discover one of the least known yet most interesting medieval castles in the Košice area. Sokoľ Castle, hidden in the forests of the Čierna hora mountain range, will transport you to a world of medieval fortresses, archaeological discoveries, and beautiful nature. Following extensive restoration, it now features a new observation deck, a lapidarium, educational displays, and the unique Castle Cave.

The Jakub's trail is an interesting pilgrimage route that starts in the city of Košice and ends at the Predná Holica cabin.

The SNP is a famous and challenging route in Slovakia. It has a long historic backround and its importance in WWII is a source of pride and identity. Someone who walks the SNP often receives the respect of local people and is greeted with a smile and thumb up. In the East the path starts at the Dukla Pass on the border to Poland traverses different mountain ranges with the highest peaks in the Lower Tatras and ends at the border with Austria in Devin just West of the capital Bratislava.
