Hiking in Jammerbugt

The hiking route Tranum-Fosdalen offers spectacular nature in a varied terrain and is one of four certified premium hiking routes in Denmark.

It goes through a dune landscape with broom, wild roses, and beach grasses in a nature reserve to one of the best beaches in Northern Europe with the finest white sand.

To Denmark's unique bird nesting cliffNearly 50 meters above the sea rises the lonely rock Bulbjerg, jutting out as Jutland's outpost into the North Sea. Thousands of kittiwakes nest in these bizarre erosion shapes of white chalk and black flint. From the summit, you can overlook the entire Jammer Bay. Afterwards, the tour takes us to a Thing site, a gathering place from the late Stone Age surrounded by so-called Bautasteine, and to the Thing stones, heavy rock blocks with which, according to legend, strong trolls have thrown at each other. Perhaps we'll encounter one.

The Quality Trail was created in collaboration with the Danish Nature Agency and certified as a nature trail by the Danish Hiking Association. The hike begins and ends at the parking lot at Bulbjerg. You’ll head south across the dune heath. Next, follow the tree line, then take a gravel road westward and follow the paved road for about 300 meters.From there, head south across the dune heath—with beautiful views of Lild Klit and the North Sea—as you follow the edge of the inland dunes for about 900 m. Then head east, and the route winds in varying directions through the dune forest (passing, among other things, the burial mounds at Tinghøj) until you reach the tank ditch, which you follow northward to the coast. After descending to the beach, follow it back to Bulbjerg, where you’ll take the stairs up to the parking lot. MARKINGS The Quality Trail is not marked.
