The North Route leads in a west-east direction from Kulmbach to the Czech border (71 km). From Kulmbach, it goes through the Upper Main region, overcomes the "Franconian Line" at Wirsberg, and leads over the highest elevations of the northern Fichtelgebirge (Großer Waldstein, Epprechtstein, Großer Kornberg) to Selb and from there further to the Czech border (junction with the East Route).
