Hikes in Wallenborn

The circular hiking route leads through spruce and oak forests and reaches its highlight on the Nerother Kopf with the medieval castle ruin Freudenkoppe.

This small circular hike offers magnificent views over the village of Wallenborn. When the cold water geyser, also called "Brubbel," erupts, it is a spectacular natural spectacle for both young and old.

Start at Binsenmühle (Deudesfeld), Schutz, Geiser in Wallenborn, Weidenbach, back to Binsenmühle (Deudesfeld).

A very nice, easy route—it starts with a moderate climb, then stays at the same elevation, and follows a gentle path downhill to the Brubbel in Wallenborn.  About halfway along the route, there is an open, sturdy circular hut in the forest. Eischeid is located right nearby. This is a forest that has been left to its own devices for about 30 years. A natural forest—a primeval forest—is taking shape here! Further down the route, within a fenced-in area, you’ll find large trees; here you can already hear the traffic on the nearby paved road. Shortly before the junction, a path leads slightly uphill past it. Back to Neroth by bus at 2:09 p.m.!!!

▶ Below the church in Deudelsfeld 01, turn right onto “Hauptstraße”; after the curve, turn left onto “Wiesental” and follow the Speicherbach Valley all the way down. From the fish ponds, stay on the left side of the valley all the way to the Kleine Kyll valley 02; continue left toward Schutz 03. Cross the Walmerbach, then turn left after the church onto Trail 5: climb up the valley, turn right before the bridge onto “Zur Lay” and stay on this side of the stream; after half an hour, cross the Marschbach and head up the valley to Wallenborn 04; go around the church and down to the Wallenden Born, locally known as “Brubbel” 05.Cross the small bridge and pass the parking lot, then head up “Weidenbacher Straße” out of town, following a long straight stretch—initially along Brubbelpfad and Geburtenallee. At the end of the straight stretch, turn right uphill; at the top, turn right again onto a paved path.On this water route, turn left and follow it for 2 km above the Hubelsbach Valley; the path soon becomes a dirt road and continues through brush to Weidenbach 06. Climb “Auf dem Hübel,” then descend right onto “Alter Weg.” From the bottom, take “Hauptstraße” to the left up to the end of town.Immediately after house no. 66, turn right and head uphill into the forest on Trail 2: follow the curve around the Kahlenberg; at the top, take the right fork onto the path, which soon becomes paved; at the forest road in the Dreigemeindewald, turn left and climb slightly again.At the end of the trail, turn right onto the intersecting forest road (Trail 7). Pass the Maria im Walde chapel on the left and follow the winding descent to Deudesfeld 01. Keep to the right to return to the starting point.
